WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?

Accreditation through a VCPE Approved State Recognized Accrediting Association guarantees the transfer of student credits from the state recognized accredited private school to a public school and ensures recognition of teacher licensure credits for time served in an accredited private school.

This means that if a child is a student in a school that is not an accredited school and wishes to transfer into a public school, it is possible that the school division will not accept the credits (or the grade level equivalent) from the non-accredited private school.  If a school division decides not to accept the credits/academic program of the non-accredited private school, a child may have to either repeat their current grade level to prove competency (elementary or middle school), take placement tests (high school) or complete the credits in the public school division to satisfactorily meet graduation requirements (high school).

Teachers teaching in non-accredited private schools may not receive credit for years of service toward teacher licensure credits or licensure renewal.  This would have to be determined on a case-by-case basis through the Virginia Department of Education.

Please be aware that VCPE does NOT recognize or accredit supplemental service schools or individual classes.
